Idaho Leads Nation in UFO Sightings

Idaho has earned the distinction of having the highest number of UFO sightings per capita in the United States during the first quarter of 2020, according to recent reports. A study conducted by a website specializing in satellite internet access for rural areas, using data from the National UFO Reporting Center, revealed that residents of the state reported a total of 164 UFO sightings over the past 18 months. This report was released ahead of World UFO Day, which falls on Thursday.

While Florida holds the record for the highest number of UFO sightings overall, with 567 reported sightings, Idaho’s lower population size means it had a rate of 9.18 sightings per 100,000 people. This was highlighted in the satelliteinternet.com report, as cited by the Idaho Statesman. The objective of the study, according to Tim Tincher, a researcher for the website, was to explore the possibility of mistaken identifications of satellite internet equipment, such as SpaceX’s Starlink, as UFOs in the sky.

Montana came in a close second with a rate of 9.17 sightings per capita, followed by New Hampshire, Maine, and New Mexico. Notably, New Mexico is known for the infamous alleged UFO crash in Roswell back in 1947. The latest sighting in Idaho occurred on April 18 in Bonners Ferry, based on the records of the National UFO Reporting Center.

A witness statement, as reported by the Statesman, described a sighting where a light initially thought to be another satellite appeared to move rapidly across the sky, changing position without leaving a trail. The light made sharp turns, even retracing its path. Its color was described as bluish white.

Overall, Idaho has emerged as a state with a high concentration of UFO sightings per capita, sparking curiosity and renewed interest in the subject.
